Harrumph. well, it’s official. wheelpants and gear leg fairings aren’t that fun to do. i’m gonna get weird here. doing the wheelpants and gear leg fairings is a bit like quantum physics. it seems as though when you’re positioning things, the very act of measuring stuff changes it’s position. it’s maddening. oh well. a couple things about the gear leg fairings. when you put the hinge in there, they have you mark the location of it, then pull out the hinge pin, relocate the halves, then drill. i got scared that i’d get it misaligned, so i just left the hinge pinned together, and drilled the holes with it all together. light pressure made sure everything stayed put, and it came out straight. hooray. so after i did the string trick to align the leg fairings, i went to the intersection fairings. the lower ones took some serious massaging, but i got them sorted out. you’re supposed to lay 2 layers of glass over the fairings once you’ve got them into place to make them strong. i don’t think i’m very good at fiberglassing stuff yet. as always, the one on the copilot side is much better than the pilot side fairing. those will have to cure for day. i looked at the upper intersection fairings, and decided to do those later, because the shape of the ones i got from vans look bad. They’re all wavy like a lasagna noodle. not smooth and slick like an airplane. oh well.
