Spent today trimming the canopy further. I hate to admit it, but I didn’t sweat and toil over it with hand sanding. I used power tools the whole way, and by the time the day was over, the fit of the canopy is perfect. I’m actually surprised. Very surprised. Bethany says that I should believe in us a little more. That we have skills. I dunno, but the thing fits, and fits VERY well. I used an electric grinder with a cut-off disc, and a belt sander. I’ll have to go in and massage curves with some ole fashioned hand sanding, but not too much. I just spent most of the day getting the fit to the fuselage perfect, and I still have to finish cutting out the door area and the window areas. I’ll do that stuff after I pull the canopy off later. I still have to fit and mount the overhead console, and do some smoothing out of the interior of the canopy, so I’ll wait to permanently install it. For now, I’m just really happy the thing fits. Boy, people really aren’t kidding when they talk about the poor quality of the fiberglass parts provided in the Vans Aircraft kits though. I don’t know crap about fiberglass yet, but even I can tell that they’re poo. No biggie though, we’ll smooth it out and it’ll look excellent.
